What makes a slave, a princess?

Well to be quite honest, men most often turn them into princesses at one time or another in the beasts’ life.

By definition, a princess slave is a girl who has this self inflated notion about herself or her position in a kennel or with a free person.  She creates drama, doesn’t work, makes drama, talks about the private business of the free to make herself look more important or closer to that free in the eyes of the other girls and otherwise, spreads rumors such as “this one wants to own me”.

She has no regard for rules other than her own, usually chooses one man that “will be hers” and she begins this campaign to obtain him for herself, completely forgetting the fact that she owns nothing and has no choices in who will own her or use her.  Often, she avoids serving other free (especially in the furs) because she already see’s herself as “his”.   In so doing, the girl has proven she is not a slave, but instead, seeking to own and control the free.

Now, there is a clear difference between a cool person roleplaying a troublesome slave … and a pain in the ass princess on her own personal mission and often the best way to tell is to get to know the slave in character AND out of character.  See how the two personalities come across.  IC you may not be able to stand the beast, but OOC, they are one of the most fun and cool people you ever met which makes roleplaying through the breaking of a naughty animal actually fun.  Dealing with princesses is never fun, just a total waste of time and recommended you just destroy the creature rather than bother to try.

In an alarmingly great many cases, its the free men themselves that create this problem because they treat slaves like they are cherished pets.  They put notions in their heads that they are better than another slave and/or they do not reprimand them when they misbehave … in many cases, they think it’s funny.  Sometimes they just don’t pay attention to the beast and it becomes a princess trying to gain attention (also known as an attention whore).

The worst thing free men do is giving kajira the notion that they are ‘better’ than free women and do not have to do anything for a fw or answer to them.  This is a huge problem that makes for a major princess and a ton of drama.  When a free woman gives a slave a command, the men really need to support her command (especially of city slaves) or at the very least, discuss with her in private the “whys and wherefores” to understand the issue and then ban together to keep the slave in her place.

In so many ways, the care and management of slaves is not unlike the care and management of children in a school or a day care.  The free must always form a united front thus disabling the princess from creating the drama we all hate and complain about.

Princesses tend to think they are more valuable, but what they do not understand is … their behavior makes them the LEAST wanted creature in all of Gor at one point or another and that reputation will follow them from sim to sim.

This is an epidemic that frankly, needs to be put to an end.  In Port Kar, the city kennel does not suffer the princess slave, be her inherently a bad person, or just one who refuses to believe she’s anything but adorable (i.e. not necessarily bad intentions).  These creatures are given the garbage death which includes an ooc ban and notification to all the gorean sim owners and managers of said slave’s death and the reasons for it.  I would ask that all cities consider some level of this non-tolerance as well to begin the long process of getting these trouble makers out of our midst to hopefully enhance roleplay for us all.

Most recently terminated princess slaves in Port Kar include eavanya Firelyte “naa”, Constance Aries “halima” and a boy who’s name slips my mind at the moment but I will append this article when I look it up.

Please, before you start to interract with a slave, think these things through, not only for the benefit of all roleplayers, men, women, free, slave … but for yourself as well.

Thank you.

Vonda’s Still At It …

Well, with a response to our illustrious leader when he asked they make corrections of their improperly reported information that went something like “laughing at you ‘i’ll do something’” … it appears that they are still up to their old games of reporting mis-information and lies.

The recent article about the pirates in Port Kar, while we love our pirates are out there makin trouble as Pirates should do, are not involved in Kanda and most of what was written, was bogus spewed forth just to make trouble and I suspect, to get even with Dark for complaining about their mistakes.

Remember folks, don’t always believe everything you read!

Hugs,
DaeDae

PS: turns out by the way, the buying and selling of Kanda isn’t even illegal.  I think we all need to recheck some facts there, me included lol.  MWAH

Vonda Voice Interview of Dark Starr

Dark Starr was recently interviewed by the Vonda voice and here is how he answered. We are posting this here to clear up some changes made by the reporter that created many inaccuracies.

Sir your City has thrived for such a long time now, what do you put this down to?

I put this down to one simple thing, perseverance. It takes an uncommon dedication to see the city as more than just a game or something to feed your ego. It takes the mindset of providing for the people instead of providing for yourself. If you approach it with anything less than 100% dedication, you will fail. A city may be run by its administrator or Ubar which is far too often incorrectly used as a term, but the city is the sum of its people and guided by the owner. It takes time, dedication, blood, sweat and tears.

Would being a haven for Pirates and Outlaws and brigands have anything to do with it?

Port Kar is geared to be more involved in long-term character development.  If you’re looking for instant gratification of the moment as so many people seem to offer, than this may not be the place for you. Port Kar is more geared to establishing your story and how to weave it in and out of the other stories around you. This requires using your mind and your creativity in ways that so many do not seem to fathom.

Absolutely not. We have not had consistent Pirate, Outlaw or Brigand groups and still we survive. We have wanted a Pirate group that understands how to work with the city rather than be a group out for themselves without any direction or meaning to their existence. Too often, such groups have no knowledge of Gor and exist only to act without any sort of responsibility or intelligent design. That said, we have a Pirate group right now that is looking for new Pirates and seems to finally understand this.

As are Scribes, Warriors and Physicians…Pirates, Outlaws and Brigands are just groups or titles. They give guidance to a person as to how to play their character, but in the end, what makes any caste, group or character successful is the quality of the role-player behind the screen.

Am told that you offer safe haven to all pirates and outlaws how do they contribute towards the success of Port Kar?

No. While it is true that in Port Kar we have Pirates…and the only recognized caste of thieves, it is not true that we offer safe haven to ALL.

We do not offer haven to these pirates and outlaws that have female combatants. Because of Second Life’s nature or the nature of the people playing Gor within SL, we recognize we have to make some minor allowances
and rationalize that Outlaw groups and Pirates could have associated Free Women with their groups. Those women are welcome as long as they conduct themselves within the guidelines of the role of free women in Gor as set
forth by John Norman in the books.

We do feel that it is important that women recognize their value and importance in Gorean life far beyond that of a combatant, slave or child bearer. Using one’s brain and forging relationships in character, building a unique storyline and sticking to it, a woman can (and without the need of battle) create herself to be extremely powerful, terribly wealthy, sinisterly dastardly or sinfully sweet. There is a fine line that can be walked between free and slave and upon that line there are so many opportunities for a woman to create an incredibly worthwhile role for herself.

You yourself are you involved in handling illegal contraband? Do a lot of goods and slaves that get stolen from other cities and ships, change hands in Port Kar?

Port Kar has a Home Stone, I have no idea what you are talking about *grins enigmatically*.

What are your plans for the future of Port Kar? Do they entail getting the city cleaned up especially those foul smelling canals? And what to do about these She-Urts who hang around the Taverns watching to entrap decent people and visitors?

You get used to the smell of the canals and you begin to almost yearn for it when you have been away for too long. The She-Urts are Free Women who have fallen on hard times and learned to survive by scavenging and staying out of the way of people. They are not thieves looking to entrap visitors.

My plans for the future of Port Kar are to continue to grow and provide a quality role-playing city of the unsavory kind.

Are Free Women, like myself, safe to enter Port Kar? What dangers should I look for to avoid? Your kajira are very attentive. Are they captives or did they freely submit? I heard you do not take kajirus here. Is that a city rule? Of what other rules should outsiders be aware?

That is up to the Free Woman entering the city to decide. If you comport yourself as a proper Free Woman generally by you will be safe by day. If you come looking for excitement and adventure, you will surely find it. And, by night…all bets are off.

Most kajira of Port Kar have come to Port Kar knowing in their hearts that they are slaves and behave accordingly. If they came to Port Kar in robes and a veil but had the heart of a slave, the path to a collar is shown to them rather quickly.

No kajirus…where did you hear that?!? Kajirus are welcome in Port Kar, we actually have many women looking for them. Perhaps what was attempted to be imparted to you was this…the sort of kajirus that find themselves unwelcome here, are those who are out to find a free furring and wish to be fighting slaves running around wearing weapons…those are certainly not welcome in Port Kar. Kajirus come as two types in Port Kar…either a woman’s slave, or manning the oars on a ship.

Should outsiders be aware of other rules? They are displayed very prominently upon landing in Port Kar. Free for all to read and learn.

Tell me about yourself Sir. Do you have a Free Companion and Children? How do you keep power and control?

Of Alar heritage, I was born to the Caste of Scribes in the town of Three Turs, one of the Northern preserves of Port Kar. Both my parents are still alive and I have a younger brother and sister. During my Scribe training I
specialized in City planning and administration. My first official posting as a Scribe was to a slaver house in Ar, where I learned training techniques, picked up two Earth languages (because that was during a time when it was fashionable to train slaves in their native languages) and how to effectively torture a slave in order to gain valid confessions.

From there I became an explorer and Pirate for many years, making my way back to Port Kar, gaining wealth and power, eventually working my way up to First Captain. Because of my position, it is now more lucrative for me to run an honest business, The Dark Star Mercantile Company…although the Pirates heart still beats true on occasion when the Alar heritage shines forth.

Other little-known accomplishments include becoming the Chairman of the Gorean Council of Cities (now retired) and the Head of the Blue Caste of Gor, currently on sabbatical to write my memoirs.

I have recently claimed Daeden Jessop as my woman, not to be confused with Free Companioning. Free Companioning is often a legal agreement created for financial or political gain as well as to have children. Claiming a woman is more of an emotional reaction, something unique to Port Kar. It is simply declaring that “this woman is Mine” and she remains such for as long as the man can keep her.

I have six confirmed children from my past, one of which died in infancy and several score more suspected from my younger days when I used to travel. I do not say much more as I wish to keep them out of the public eye.

Can you survive the Scourge?

The dark foamed sea water breaks upon the weather beaten planks of the docks leading into the mouth of the city. Raucous laughter, clanging glasses and sultry slave laughter can be heard floating through the air from the taverns. A thick fog descends like a blanket, shrouding the danger of the dank streets hiding within these dirty moss-covered walls.

A scream rents the thick night air but no one pays heed to such a common occurrence within a city as malignant as this. For all who dwell here are sinister in their own right. All who live among these seedy, filthy streets filled with pirates, outlaws, thieves and killers know the pride and good fortune that is … Port Kar, Scourge of the Thassa.

Are you strong enough to survive the most treacherous streets in all of Gor?

The ship sets sail for Port Kar now, be on it … and find out …….

Seeking Citizens & Leaders

Port Kar is currently seeking citizens who are interested in BTB roleplay in the “seedier” realm of Gor known as Port Kar.

Port Kar is the only city with a caste of thieves and also sports pirates, urts, the lawless, the sly.  We wish to promote amazing roleplay with the criminal element that was Port Kar :) .

Leadership positions available, please inquire.

Also, positions for slavers who are real team players and understand the importance of the kennel to the life and viability of a city are greatly sought after.

Please contact Daeden Jessop in game to discuss.

The Death of a Great Warrior

The citizens of Port Kar gathered in the city center yesterday, with Free from several other cities, to wish farewell to one of its Warriors, the Lieutenant of Port Kar, Bosk Braveheart.

The Man’s remains were laid out in ceremonial style for a full day so that all could pay tribute. As the body was laid out on the pyre, the Men of Kar created a pathway of shields, spears, and swords. The Free Women of Kar polished them all till they gleamed, as slaves laid out armful upon armful of fresh flowers.

The First Sword of Port Kar, Lextonian Snowpaw, led a solemn but celebratory remembrance of the Warrior’s life.  A large group of Trevan warriors joined in on the ritual, sharing memories and anecdotes about Bosk’s humor, His devotion to duty, His zest for living, and His singular wit.

At last, the body of the fallen Man was borne to His ship beneath a double row of saluting Warriors. With His weapons and many offerings arranged around Him, the ship was sent out onto the waters and set ablaze, sending the Lieutenant to the city of dust.

We offer sympathies to All who have lost this wonderful Man (( in SL and RL)), and gratitude to Those of other cities who stood with Us as We said goodbye.

OOC:

The man behind the avatar of Bosk, passed from our plain of existance in RL last week, for those who do not already know.

Dark Starr will be sending a condolences card to Bosks’ family in RL on behalf of everyone in Port Kar.
